Fiberfrax® ceramic fiber products and furnace lining products are manufactured from high-performance specialty fibers and exhibit high temperature resistant stability to 2600°F. Fiberfrax Ceramic Fiber products are characterized by low thermal conductivity, low heat storage, excellent thermal shock resistance, and corrosion resistance.
Fiberfrax ceramic fibers products are available in many product forms that have applications in a wide range of high temperature applications. Fiberfrax Ceramic Fiber products have traditionally been used in Ferrous and Non Ferrous metal production, Petrochemical and Power production, and in Ceramic / Glass industries. Fiberfrax is typically used in:
- Automotive – gaskets, lower temperature
- Appliance – thermal insulation, sleeving protection
- Fire Protection – refractory fiber, heat shielding for expansion joints
Business Challenge
A cooking appliance manufacturer collaborated with Unifrax to design a solution that utilizes high temperature insulation in a commercial fryer. The customer was using a mineral fiber insulation which required an additional heating cycle to remove organic modules from the unit prior to shipping. This was very time consuming and non-efficient.
Application
It required an insulating material that protected the motor housing and wiring of the appliance from the heat generated by the fryer. The original insulation design was composed of 27 flat shapes per unit. This design required the manufacturer to manage high inventory levels of the various shapes, which occupied warehouse space. The original design was difficult and time consuming to assemble.
The Solution
Unifrax provided a solution for this application based on the Insulfrax® inorganic low bio-persistent insulation. This does not require a heating cycle to remove the binders before shipment. They were also able to reduce the complex 27 piece assembly to a total of 3 shapes that were die cut to the finished dimensions. Unifrax addressed the customer’s thermal challenge and concerns by:
- Increasing assembly efficiency
- Offering a cost saving to the customer
- Providing additional floor space for other product lines.
